31 Days of Rituals

One of the questions that I get asked on a regular basis is: "do you use spells?"

Since naturally, everyone assumes that psychics are witches who practice Wicca and black magic... fortunately, that's just a stereotype.

If you don't already know, October is my absolute favorite month of the year... The weather cools down, people sink back into their routines and regimens, I become more productive, people stop asking me why I'm wearing long sleeves... and so forth. Sadly, it's been several years since I've actually been able to enjoy the Autumn season in its entirety due to either life circumstances, college, or working retail (which has a way of sucking the joy out of any season or holiday).

This year... 2017... all that changes. I am going all out for my favorite month for the first time in far too long. So in honor of this glorious month, I'm doing 31 days of rituals (aka: spells).

When I first got the inspiration, my inner child was so incredibly excited I could hardly contain her. I could hear my inner 7 year old jumping up and down with glee... excited to gather ingredients, say magic words, light all the candles, and at the end of the day, believe that magic is a real thing.

The whole idea of experimenting with rituals came from the Grimoires (snazzy word for magic textbook) I've seen in multiple places. Now, the difference between what I'm doing and a Grimoire, is the fact that I'm not going to include things about tarot or working with herbs and crystals. This is a straight up book of rituals, and thus the "Little Black Book" series was born. If all goes well, I'll continue this series with different topics as I go along, but for now, I'm starting with rituals.

I will be the first to admit that I'm relatively skeptical about the legitimacy and power of spells, but I have always wondered if there is any benefit to the idea of adding physical ritual to the energetic intention that comes along with spells.

If you've been following me for awhile, you probably already know that I'm a stickler for safety, and there are a lot of energetic rituals that are incredibly unsafe, unethical, or downright dangerous. So I laid down some ground rules for the rituals that I'm going to do:

  1. NO banishing spells - I've looked through a ton of so-called "banishing" spells, and I have yet to find one that is even remotely safe. I already use a specific clearing methodology to keep everything secure, so I don't need banishing spells anyway.
  2. No hexes - ...come on. Don't you have a better way to spend your time and energy?
  3. No black or "evil" magic - I just don't swing that way.
  4. No spells that are meant to impact free will - as much as I would love to impact free will, it's just unethical (also not likely to work at all.)

A great portion of these spells come from the Paulina Cassidy book from her Witchlings deck. I've modified almost every single spell in there, but that was where the core of most of these spells come from.

I hope you'll enjoy these next 31 days as much as I'm going to... now let's do this.

So much gratitude,

Rev. Sydney Finn
